Based in Braintree, Essex, we’ve photographed over 100 weddings across Essex since 2016, from intimate ceremonies to grand celebrations, giving us a real understanding of what matters most when it comes to choosing the right photographer. We’ve seen first-hand how the right fit can completely shape not just your photos, but how your whole day feels. That’s why we’ve put together this guide to the most important questions to ask your wedding photographer Essex couples often overlook, helping you make a confident, informed decision and find someone who truly fits your day. These 10 questions will help you find not just great photos, but the right photographer for you.

1. How would you describe your photography style ?
Every photographer sees a wedding day differently.
Some lean towards traditional, posed images, while others (like us) focus on a more natural, documentary approach, capturing real moments as they happen rather than staging them.
Our answer: Our style is relaxed, natural, and storytelling-led. We focus on genuine moments, the laughter, the emotion, the in-between bits that often mean the most. You won’t find us interrupting your day or constantly directing you. Instead, we gently guide when needed and let everything unfold naturally.
Real Wedding Example: At Gosfield Hall we captured an autumn wedding where the bride and groom didn’t want any stiff poses. By focusing on natural interactions, their gallery is full of laughter, emotion, and intimate moments that tell the day’s story perfectly.
2. Have you photographed weddings at our venue (or similar Essex venues) ?
Experience with your venue can definitely help, but it’s not everything.
Our answer: We’ve photographed weddings across Essex at a wide range of venues, from elegant manor houses to more relaxed, outdoor settings. If we’ve shot at your venue before, great, we already know the best spots and lighting. If not, we always try and arrange a venue visit before your day to explore and also arrive early to explore and make the most of whatever the day brings. For us, it’s all about light, people, and moments, not just the location.
Real Wedding Example: At Langtons House we worked with a couple who wanted to make the most of the grand staircase and natural light in the main hall. Because we know the venue well, we captured stunning portraits without taking time away from their celebrations, keeping the day relaxed and fun.
3. Can we see a full wedding gallery ?
This is one of the most important questions to ask your wedding photographer Essex couples should never skip. A few beautiful Instagram posts or highlight shots don’t tell the full story of a wedding day.
Our answer: Absolutely. We always share full galleries so you can see exactly how we capture a wedding from start to finish. It’s the best way to understand how consistent our work is and how we handle everything from bright sunshine to dimly lit reception spaces.
Real Wedding Example: At The Fennes, we shared a full gallery from a previous wedding with the couple. From morning prep through to the first dance, they could see their day told as a complete story, not just the highlights, giving them confidence that every moment, big or small, would be beautifully captured.
4. How do you help couples feel comfortable in front of the
camera ?
Most couples tell us they feel a bit awkward at first and that’s completely normal.
Our answer: We keep things simple and relaxed. There’s no stiff posing or forced smiles. We’ll give gentle prompts if needed, but mostly we create space for you to just be yourselves. A lot of our couples say it feels more like spending time together than being “photographed”, which is exactly how it should be.
Real Wedding Example: At Langtons House, one couple admitted they were nervous about formal portraits. By letting them interact naturally in the grounds, we captured authentic laughter and quiet moments that felt completely effortless.
5. What happens if it rains ?
Because… it’s Essex. And let’s be honest, it’s always a possibility.
Our answer: We embrace it. Rain doesn’t ruin a wedding day, it just changes it slightly. We’re always prepared with ideas for indoor spaces, creative lighting, and covered outdoor spots. And if you’re up for it, some of the most atmospheric, romantic images happen in the rain.
Real Wedding Example: At Leez Priory, a sudden drizzle turned a garden portrait session into a stunning indoor shoot by the fireplace. The couple loved how fun and cozy their photos looked, it ended up being one of their favourite parts of the gallery.

6. What is included in your wedding photography packages ?
Understanding what’s included helps you compare photographers properly.
Our answer: We keep our packages simple and transparent. They typically include full-day coverage, carefully edited images, and an online gallery to share with family and friends. We’ll always talk everything through with you so you know exactly what to expect, no hidden extras, no confusion.
Real Wedding Example: One couple at Braintree Town Hall appreciated that our package included full-day coverage and all family/group photos. It meant they didn’t have to worry about timing or missing key moments, they could just enjoy the day.
7. How long will it take to receive our photos ?
Waiting for your photos can feel like the longest part of the whole experience.
Our answer: We know how exciting it is to see your images, so we always send a sneak peek shortly after your wedding. Your full gallery is then carefully edited and delivered within a 6-8 weeks, someties sooner, depending on the time of year. We never rush the process, but we also won’t keep you waiting longer than necessary.
Real Wedding Example: At Gosfield Hall, the couple received a sneak peek the very next day, perfect for sharing with family and the full gallery arrived six weeks later, beautifully edited and ready to enjoy.
8. Do you have backup equipment and insurance ?
Not the most exciting question, but definitely an important one.
Our answer: Yes, always. We carry backup cameras, lenses, and memory cards, and we’re fully insured. It’s all part of making sure your day is covered professionally and safely, whatever happens.
Real Wedding Example: At The Ivy Hill Hotel in Margaretting, we photographed a wedding vow renewal in pouring rain. Having backup lenses and lighting equipment meant the couple still got perfectly sharp, beautiful images, even in challenging conditions.
9. How do you approach group photos ?
Group photos matter, but they shouldn’t take over your day.
Our answer: We keep them relaxed, organised, and efficient. Before the wedding, we’ll help you create a simple list so everything runs smoothly. On the day, we guide things gently so you get those important family photos without spending ages standing in lines.
Real Wedding Example: At Prested Hall, the couple wanted around 10 key family shots. We planned the order and locations beforehand, and in 20 minutes, all photos were done, leaving everyone free to enjoy the rest of the day.
10. Do we feel comfortable with you ?
This is the one that matters most.
You can love someone’s photos, but if you don’t feel comfortable around them, it will show.
Our answer: We genuinely believe connection is everything. We take the time to get to know you, understand what matters to you, and create a calm, supportive presence on the day. Our aim is to feel like a natural part of your wedding, not someone directing it.
Real Wedding Example: Couples we’ve worked with at Langtons House, The Fennes, Gosfield Hall, Newland Hall and numerous other Essex wedding venues consistently tell us that they felt like we were just part of their day, present but unobtrusive so the images captured are relaxed, joyful, and full of life.
