When your wedding date lands on Halloween whether that’s pure coincidence or perfectly planned, you have a choice: do you embrace the spooky spirit, ignore it completely, or find a beautiful balance between the two ?
For Victoria and Leigh, who postponed their wedding during the pandemic, the extra time gave them a chance to plan every detail to perfection, resulting in the most wonderful mix of elegant celebration and subtle Halloween charm.

A Grand Setting for a Gosfield Hall Halloween Wedding
Gosfield Hall in Essex is one of those venues that simply takes your breath away. This Georgian mansion, once a royal residence, offers timeless grandeur, sweeping staircases, and rooms filled with character. It’s a place where every corner whispers history and elegance.
We’re always delighted to return here, it’s practically on our doorstep, and we know its light, layout, and hidden gems inside out (if it weren’t for all our camera gear, we could almost walk there !).
A Calm and Joyful Morning
Vicky and her bridal party began their morning in the cosy Lady’s Chambers Cottage, having stayed overnight to keep things relaxed and stress-free. The atmosphere was full of excitement and laughter, and even Noel (my husband and fellow wedding photographer) lent a hand when two hands simply weren’t enough !
Later in the morning, the bridal party made their way via the back staircases to the stunning Rococo Bridal Suite. The Gosfield Hall team have this transition down to perfection. Brides never have to worry about bumping into guests or getting caught in the rain, and there’s something truly special about finishing your preparations in such regal surroundings.
Meanwhile, the groom, his best men, and ushers were getting ready in one of the mansion’s luxurious bedrooms, calm, collected, and perhaps just a touch nervous.
A Ceremony Fit for Royalty
Guests gathered in the warm, wood-panelled library before making their way to the magnificent Queen Charlotte’s Gallery for the ceremony. At 120 feet long, it’s a truly breathtaking aisle, giving everyone plenty of time to admire the bride and her dress as she walks toward her groom.
With two of us photographing, we’re able to capture both stories unfolding at once, the anticipation of the groom and the final touches of the bride, without rushing between spaces.
Drinks, Laughter, and a Rainbow
The drinks reception took place in the Grand Salon, with guests mingling between there and the library. Between light showers, we managed to gather everyone outside for a full group photo, and were rewarded with a perfectly timed rainbow.
Subtle Halloween Touches at Gosfield Hall
The Ballroom was beautifully decorated for the wedding breakfast, elegant yet playfully themed. With pumpkin centrepieces, “witches’ brew” favours, and special treats for the younger guests added a seasonal touch without overwhelming the setting.
Before dessert, Vicky and Leigh led the children to The Snug, which had been transformed for Halloween. Trick-or-treating and an array of sweet treats delighted everyone (and we spotted more than a few adults sneaking in later for a nostalgic handful of sweets !).
A Cake to Remember and a Night to Celebrate
The cake, a true Halloween masterpiece, was cut at the foot of the grand staircase, with guests lining the steps for a perfect view. This is always a favourite moment at Gosfield Hall, full of cheers, camera flashes, and emotion.
A few relaxed family portraits followed, before the newlyweds took to the dance floor for their first dance. Then came Vicky’s dances with her dad and father-in-law, moments full of laughter and love.
We ended the night with a few final portraits of the couple, quiet, romantic moments that perfectly wrapped up a day full of warmth, fun, and personal touches.
