If you’ve ever wondered what it’s really like to have us photograph your wedding day, this one’s for you. We’ve gathered some of the most common (and honest !) questions our couples ask and answered them just as we would over a relaxed cuppa. Think of this as a little window into who we are, how we work, and why storytelling sits at the heart of everything we do.

An Interview with Essex Wedding Photographers: Your Questions Answered
“How did you get started in wedding photography ?”
It didn’t begin with weddings, it began with a love for photography and a curiosity to keep learning.
We started out photographing wildlife, drawn to those quiet, fleeting moments you can’t control or recreate. Wanting to develop our skills further, we joined a local camera club, where we learned new techniques, challenged ourselves creatively, and really honed our eye for storytelling.
Then one day, a request came into the club by email, was anyone willing to photograph a wedding ?
We put ourselves forward… and we’ve never looked back.
What started as a single “yes” turned into something that just felt right. All those skills from wildlife photography, patience, observation, anticipating moments before they happen, naturally carried over into weddings.
We quickly realised that weddings aren’t about posed perfection, they’re about connection. The real, unscripted moments. And that’s what made us fall in love with it.
And the review from Andrea, the mother of the bride said it all.....
"You two are just so....... good! You photographed our daughters wedding and totally captured the atmosphere of the day. Every time we look through the pictures we say you could not have done one thing better!! Thank you so much."
“What makes your approach different from other Essex wedding photographers ?”
We’re not just turning up with cameras, we’re stepping into your story.
From the moment you enquire, we’re getting to know you, your dynamic, your people, what matters most. By the time your wedding day arrives, we’re not strangers, we feel more like old friends who just happen to be documenting everything.
Our approach is:
Relaxed, not rigid
Natural, not staged
Observational, not intrusive
We won’t pull you away from your day for hours of posing. Instead, we create space for you to be present, while we quietly capture everything as it unfolds.
In the words of Holly & Dan who got married at Newland Hall
"We had a few visits with them before the wedding which really helped our 3 young children get familiar with them before the day. We felt so at ease with their presence. They kept us both calm and relaxed on the day and nothing was too regimental."
“Do you offer bespoke wedding photography packages ?”
Absolutely. In fact, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
No two weddings are the same, so why should your photography be ?
We offer bespoke services tailored around your plans, your priorities, and your story. Whether you’re planning:
An intimate ceremony with your closest people
A full-day celebration from morning prep to dance floor chaos
Something completely non-traditional
We build your coverage around you, not a fixed package.
We’ll guide you through what works best based on your timeline, but there’s no one-size-fits-all here.
Kind words from Tanya & Frankie who got married at The Fennes
"Can’t recommend Helen & Noel enough, they explained packages clearly for us to decide what we wanted, they kept in touch regularly before our Wedding and we met up to discuss the whole day in detail so by the time our day came we were at ease with them and so confident they would cover everything we wanted."
“We’re a bit camera shy… will that be a problem ?”
Honestly ? Most of our couples say this.
And it’s never a problem.
You don’t need to know how to pose or what to do with your hands. That’s not what we’re about. We gently guide when needed, but most of the time we’re simply observing and documenting.
Our goal is to help you feel comfortable enough to forget the camera is even there.
The result ? Photos that feel like you, not a version of you performing for the camera.
In Becky & Kays own words who got married at Braintree Town Hall
"They made us feel completely at ease and comfortable. Noel and Helen took the time to build a genuine relationship with us, ensuring they understood our vision perfectly. Their constant smiles and positive energy made the experience even more enjoyable."
“How much direction do you give on the day ?”
Very little, and very gently.
We’ll step in when it helps (like organising group photos efficiently or guiding you into good light), but we’re not directing your day.
We believe your wedding should feel like your wedding, not a photoshoot.
That said, we’re always there in the background, anticipating moments and making sure everything is captured beautifully without interrupting the flow.
Kind Words from Thea & Jay who got married at Braintree Town Hall followed by their reception at Gosfield Lake Golf Club
"They were never in the way, yet somehow captured every meaningful moment so beautifully. Their energy was calm but confident, and they were perfectly assertive when they needed to be, keeping everything on track without ever feeling intrusive. We felt completely supported and at ease the entire day, and the photos reflect that so naturally."
“What kind of moments do you focus on capturing ?”
The real ones.
Of course, we capture the key moments, ceremony, confetti, first dance, but the magic often lives in the in-between:
Your mum adjusting your dress when no one’s watching
Your partner’s face the moment they see you
Friends crying with laughter during speeches
Kids being completely, unapologetically themselves
These are the moments that bring everything flooding back years later.
“Do you only work in Essex ?”
Essex is home, and we’ve photographed over 100 weddings here since 2016, from intimate ceremonies to big celebrations full of energy.
But we’re always happy to travel. If your story takes us somewhere new, we’re all in and have photographed weddings in Norfolk, Suffolk, Hertfordshire, Cornwall, Cheshire & Ireland.
“How involved are you in the lead-up to the wedding ?”
As much as you need us to be.
We’re here throughout the whole journey, not just on the day. Whether it’s:
Timeline advice
Planning tips to make your day flow smoothly
Location ideas for photos
Or just a reassuring chat when things feel overwhelming
We’re always at the end of a message.
Because great photos don’t just happen on the day, they’re built on trust and connection beforehand.
“What happens after the wedding ?”
Once the day is over, the storytelling continues.
We carefully curate and edit your gallery to reflect the emotion, atmosphere, and energy of your day. Nothing heavy or overdone, just timeless, natural edits that will still feel right in years to come.
You’ll receive a collection of images that lets you relive your wedding, not just how it looked, but how it felt.
“Why do you love photographing weddings ?”
Because no two stories are ever the same.
Every couple brings something unique, their people, their energy, their connection. Being trusted to document that is something we never take lightly.
It’s not just about photos for us. It’s about preserving memories that become more valuable with time.
